Trumpeter German VK3001 in 1:35 scale

Finished in 2009. The VK3001 was a prototype 30-ton vehicle. This model depicts a VK3001 hastily used in the defense of Germany. The single-piece tracks were sagged by inserting sewing pins into the hull sides, a trick from the old days.

Because it has a featureless surface and no historical reference for an interesting camouflage, an attempt was made to add an interesting paint scheme. The suspension is Rot primer, the hull is Dunkelgrau, and the turret is Dunkelgelb. Beneath the fenders and turret is Rot primer, which shows through in chips that were created with the aid of a layer hairspray. This layer can be dissolved with water to selectively remove the top paint layer. Wet pigment washes were used for dust effects. Different shades of filters were used to differentiate the panels.

Turrets from the VK3001 were used in fixed emplacements later during WW2. o the model's turret was chipped aggressively to depict one that had been used that way and then later reattached for a last-ditch homeland defense effort.
